Hi there! Thank you for visiting my blog - I’m so glad you’re here.
Let me start by sharing a little about what this blog is, why I’m doing this, who it is for, and who I am.
What this blog is
This blog is a learning journal on one specific topic - Generative AI. This is meant to be a place for me to capture all of my personal learnings, reflections, questions, revelations and ideas during my journey of getting smart on this one topic. This is not the blog of a GenAI industry expert, or the master writings of an engineering genius, or a well-oiled machine of a newsletter that lures you in with click baits but offers no real valuable information.
Quite the opposite, this is the journal of someone who is completely non-technical (despite my many failed and half-hearted attempts to try to learn to code), who is curious about this AI revolution that is unfolding before our eyes, who is frankly a bit scared to be left behind, and who is determined to do something about it. Therefore, as you read this blog, you will see my literal learning progress, from distilling down the very basics of what is GenAI, to hopefully digging much deeper later on into the specific areas of GenAI.
Broadly speaking, I am planning to get smart on this topic from several angles (this is how you’ll see the sections organized) - the basics of how it works (the science), the players in the market, the current and future applications of this technology, the latest advancements in the field, and lastly, any personal ideas or musings that I have around this topic overall.
Why I am doing this (and is this blog written by ChatGPT)
I am starting a journal because I want to learn about this important topic and I need a place to capture all my notes and thoughts. I am posting this journal in blog form to force myself to be clear in my communication, and to be able to play back what I’ve learned around the internet in a way that could be understood by others. I am making it public so that someone else who might find it helpful can use this and learn alongside me. I am not using GenAI to write this blog itself (even though that would be pretty cool - but I did generate the logo for this blog with Canva’s AI generator! and I did use ChatGPT to help me come up with an initial learning plan), because I believe the best way to learn is to try to teach the topic to someone else, hence my forcing myself to be clear, concise and consistent in each post.
As such, I will try my best to keep everything organized in the blog, categorized into themed buckets (as noted above), and published sequentially in a logical learning order. I will also list the readings/videos/articles/trainings I used to write each piece of learning at the end of each post.
Who it is for
First and foremost, this is for me. I want to hold myself accountable on this learning journey and this is the best way I could think of to do that. Therefore, the tone of this blog will be casual, and often you may see me pose questions for my later self to answer and research (and with your help hopefully!), and occasionally I may have to come back and correct, or deepen, an earlier understanding as I get smarter.
If you are not a technical person such as a software engineer or machine learning expert but want to learn about GenAI, I invite you to subscribe and join me in this journey to learn alongside me. If you too find the pace of change and the amount of information out there already on GenAI a bit intimidating or overwhelming, I think you will find this blog helpful, as I am also learning and I will publish my learnings at a reasonable pace, so you can follow along step by step vs. trying to do it all on your own.
If you are already an expert and find this blog interesting, I welcome your guidance, suggestions and discussions in the comments to help us all learn more and learn faster.
Who I am
In my day job, I am a strategy consultant, serving many Fortune 500 businesses on improving their operating model, planning for the future, and building better products for their customers. Because I am just starting on this learning journey, and I know for a fact that clients often google us before working with us, I think it’s better if I stay under the radar for the time being :) However, thanks to my many years in the consultant role, I have gotten fairly good at learning new topics quickly, synthesizing tons of information and distilling the key insights, breaking down a big problem into approachable pieces, and communicating in a clear and organized manner, all skills which I hope will help me in building this blog.
So that’s all for now - again, welcome and thank you for being here to learn with me. Now let’s get smarter together!
